Well, Next has a MiniExample that implements Emacs style bindings with a minimum of fuss... There is no reason that it couldn't be adapted to a category (it is a subclass right now I thing) and then added to the MiscKit.
Overall, the Text object is a dog, but is still miles ahead of what TextEdit on the mac offers... I'd like a new TextObject someday soon though...
